Mackerel: [Scomber Scombrus] Also known as Atlantic Mackerel, the
larger ones are called Boston Mackerel because they migrate north in
spring and summer between Cape Cod and the Gulf of Maine. They
travel in huge schools often 50 miles long. They are a pelagic or
midwater species that feed on small baitfish. When the fishing is
good mackerel are often caught 3 or 4 at a time on small jigs and
tubes.
